Translational Research in Hodgkin Lymphoma

In close ties with the German Hodgkin Study Group (GHSG) we archive biomaterials form Hodgkin lymphoma patients within GHSG clinical trials. Building on this large collection of materials we are conducting translational studies to deepen our understanding of Hodgkin lymphoma biology. Exemplary, we have recently published that Vitamin D increases the susceptibility of Hodgkin lymphoma to chemotherapy in a range of in vitro and in vivo models and that high Vitamin D levels markedly improve the outcome of Hodgkin lymphoma patients (Borchmann et al., 2019, Journal of Clinical Oncology). Building on that, we are investigating the role of Vitamin D in Hodgkin lymphoma treated with checkpoint inhibition. In other projects, we are, together with the German Hodgkin Study Group (GHSG) and the Hodgkin Lymphoma MRD consortium, developing various biomarkers for molecular classification of Hodgkin lymphoma and response monitoring.
